Cytogenetics of Salivary Gland NeoplasmsLieutenant Rachel L. Werner, DC, USN, Captain Robert D. Foss, DC, USNIntroductionMolecular cytogenetics involves, among other things, the study of chromosomal abnormalities at the level of DNA. Chromosome translocations are genetic abnormalities caused by the transfer of a chromosomal segment to a new position, especially on a different chromosome. Translocations can result in the overexpression of one gene by placing it next to a routinely expressed... Surfin' Bird was a zine from Montreal that came out in November 1978. This issue featured an interview with the Battered Wives, a piece on Elvis Costello, a column by the guitarist of the Chromosomes, a piece on DEVO, a piece on Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richardsm, and some record reviews which included Blondie, the Rezillos, the Clash, the Dishes, and the Buzzcocks. Boundary layers in supersonic reacting flows are not well understood. Recently a technique has been developed which makes more extensive surface measurements practical, increasing the capability to understand the turbulent boundary layer. A significant advance in this understanding would be the formulation of an analytic relation between the transfer of momentum and the transfer of heat for this flow, similar to the Reynolds Analogy that exists for laminar flow. A gauge has been designed and... Topics: BACTERIA, RADIATION EFFECTS, STRANDS, DEATH, ELECTROPHORESIS, GELS, MAINTENANCE, MOLECULAR BIOLOGY,...
Six scientists from Martin Marietta who did research for NASA on algae as food supply, oxygen source and a recycling agent for long duration space travel founded Martek Biosciences Corporation. Martek's main product is Formulaid for infants, an algae-based, vegetable-like oil containing two essential polyunsaturated fatty acids known as DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid). The acids are found in human milk but not in most infant formulas, and they are believed to be associated... Results of a feasibility study to apply laser Rayleigh scattering to non-intrusively measure flow properties in a small supersonic wind tunnel are presented. The technique uses an injection seeded, frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser tuned to an absorption band of iodine. The molecular Rayleigh scattered light is filtered with an iodine cell to block light at the laser frequency. The Doppler-shifted Rayleigh scattered light that passes through the iodine cell is analyzed with a planar mirror... This compendium describes aircraft data that are available from NASA's Pacific Exploratory Mission West-B (PEM West-B). PEM West is a component of the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry's (IGAC) East Asia/North Pacific Regional Study (APARE) project. Objectives of PEM West are to investigate the atmospheric chemistry of ozone over the northwest Pacific -- natural budgets and the impact of anthropogenic/continental sources; and to investigate sulfur chemistry -- continental and marine...
